My Green Design Project
As part of a new dawn in exciting design and concept, construction methods and diverse use of materials, rather than the preset 'theme architecture', this project was conceptualised," said Karel.
The client's brief was inspired by the steel and glass box house of the 1940s and 1950s, currently popularised by Australian architects Glenn Murcutt and Gabriel Poole. The design solution included composite materials, namely glass, steel, timber and concrete. This eco-friendly house makes use of solar panels for insulation and hot water, gas for cooking and rainwater from the roof structure for irrigation purposes. By creating simple forms and spaces and eliminating complexity in design and detailing - in other words by keeping it simple - this exciting home was created."
